The game of cricket as a database

Oct 11th, 2009 | By Guy | Category: Other stuff

Ok, so perhaps this is totally niche but someone else out there may get the same geeky frisson that I do from looking through this image.

Created during the production of the Cricket Unlimited website for the Guardian in the late nineties this database schema captures all permutations of the game of cricket as a database schema.  It covers local, national, triangle series, internationals and the world cup.  In essence, any possible game of cricket should be contained in this schema!

I would like to give a shout out credit to the programmer who I worked with on this project, but just cannot remember his name.  I believe he’s now working for the company that has built the CMS for the London 2012 Olympics but the trail ended there….

So for the exclusive club of cricket tragics who can also read a database schema, here you go.  Enjoy.

  1. Amazing. I was impressed when I found out a friend of mine’s son had a board game that was really just a set of dice with a pile of cricket scorecards and then some statistics in it.

But this model is really impressive - the person who created it was obviously born to work on databases or complex models
