Google buys AdMob - gets serious about Mobile Advertising
Nov 10th, 2009 | By Jennifer Wilson | Category: The Lean Forward BlogAnnouncement out today that Google has bought Ad Mob, the largest display advertiser in the mobile space, serving millions on ads into mobile site and smart phone apps.
There is a supportive blog (as you would expect) on this on the Ad Mob site talking about the benefits to this to Ad Mob customers (adding Google Search options for advertisers). Yeah yeah, more places all good.
What I am more excited about here is really two fold:
Firstly - whenever Google makes a serious foray into a space, whether successful or not (and many of them aren’t), there is increased interest here. For mobile advertising, which Omar rights describes as having been seen as always the next big thing, the purchase of Ad Mob, the largest and most well known third party ad serving system for mobile, can only stimulate interest.
Secondly - it means that Google is getting serious about mobile. Android showed one path, now we have another. I’m interested. And scared
