A big deep breath
Jun 24th, 2009 | By Jennifer Wilson | Category: Mobile, The Lean Forward Blog, TwitterI’m turning over a new leaf and have decided to blog more regularly (I hear you muttering ‘that won’t be hard’), in short sharp bursts, about all the stuff that is coming up that interests me.
When I started Lean Forward, it was to look at engagement with consumers by media, brands, advertisers, screen content producers, writers, publishers and just about anyone who wanted to get some attention. I want to start talking about both the ‘forest’ of connection and glue, but also the individual ‘trees’ that are piquing my interest.
So, ready yourself for some posts coming up on:
- augmented reality - what we’re seeing and what I’m thinking
- multi-platform production - reaching consumers on all those screens
- new phones, new features and new thoughts
- layar - integrating location with augmented reality. We’ve seen it in games, here it is in life
- Some publications coming out in the next few weeks
- Some talks I’ve given to various groups
- A new UGC/multi-platform concept that I’m exploring at the moment
So much to say! And Twitter just won’t cut it!
Speaking of which, I had a bit of a revelation the other day. I’ve been finding Twitter incredibly useful for finding new things out (the best source of discovery ever!) but I’ve often found myself reluctant to tweet about things. Yesterday, while speaking at the Australian Booksellers Association annual conference, I talked about the Dunbar number. You know - the magic 150 relationships that we are able to sustain before we get ‘connection overload’ and stop paying attention.
I realised that, TweetDeck and filtering tools aside, being over that Dunbar threshold has meant that I have lost some connection with my network and it (they) simply aren’t as real to me as they were (when the numbers were smaller). Maybe I’m slow to this, but I’ve realised I need to think of my audiences of one - and start talking more personally. We’ll see. You can follow me at http://twitter.com/jenwilsonsydney (if you want), but bear in mind I can be a bit intermittent.
OK, so big deep breath as we are, over the next few days, going to start this ride across my past few months and some thoughts I’ve been having. This is a blog, after all.
